The park maintains a consistent water temperature of 28°C, making it a great year-round destination. Changing rooms, lockers, and seating areas are available for visitor convenience. The only slight negative is that the food options within the park are limited and expensive. Overall, Aquaparc in Le Bouveret offers an exceptional water park experience, catering to thrill-seekers, families, and younger children alike.

However, with children, we'd recommend the The Novotel Bern Expo, a four-star hotel offering 112 air-conditioned, non-smoking rooms spread over nine floors, each designed to provide a comfortable and modern stay. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and tea and coffee-making facilities. Guests can also enjoy the on-site fitness centre to maintain their wellness routines. Dining options at the Novotel Bern Expo include the "GourmetBar" restaurant, which serves a variety of fresh, local Swiss dishes with an international touch. The hotel also features a bar where guests can unwind with a selection of beverages in a relaxed atmosphere. The hotel's prime location offers convenient access to several of Bern's key attractions. Switzerland isn't a cheap country, there won't be many cheaper than the Novotel unless you look for a more remote destination.

We wouldn't really recommend and paid trips from Bern, you'd be much better hiring a car and exploring the natural environment. However, if you are short on time and interested in the main sites of Bern then a walking tour might work. Explore the UNESCO-listed Old Town and marvel at architectural wonders like the late Gothic Cathedral (Münster) and the iconic Zytglogge Clock Tower, famous for its mesmerising hourly spectacle. The local guide will share fascinating stories spanning eight centuries, bringing Bern's past to life. Plus, keep your eyes peeled – a chance encounter with a member of the Federal Council outside the Parliament building could be a unique highlight of your trip.

Hiring a car in Bern is something we would highly recommend, Switzerland has such stunning landscapes and charming towns. Several well-known car hire companies, including Hertz, Europcar, Sixt, and Avis, operate in Bern, with rental locations available in the city centre, at Bern railway station, and at Bern Airport. Driving in Switzerland is generally a smooth and enjoyable experience, thanks to the country’s excellent road infrastructure and well-maintained motorways. However, there are a few key regulations and considerations to keep in mind. A valid driving licence is required, and while most car hire companies accept UK and EU licences, some may request an International Driving Permit for non-European travellers. A motorway vignette (toll sticker) is mandatory for driving on Swiss motorways and is usually included with rental vehicles. If not, it can be purchased at petrol stations or post offices. Swiss roads are well-signposted and efficient, but they also come with strict rules. Speed limits are 50 km/h in urban areas, 80 km/h on rural roads, and 120 km/h on motorways, unless otherwise indicated. Speeding fines are strictly enforced, often via automatic cameras. Seat belts are compulsory for all passengers, and mobile phone use while driving is prohibited unless using a hands-free system. Switzerland also has strict drink-driving laws, with a blood alcohol limit of 0.05%, lower than in the UK, meaning even one drink could put you over the limit. Some high mountain passes, such as the Furka, Grimsel, and Gotthard Passes, may be closed in winter due to snow, but alternatives like the Gotthard Tunnel ensure year-round connectivity. Many travellers flying to Bern from further afield choose to land at Zurich Airport or Geneva Airport, both of which offer extensive international connections. From Zurich, Bern is just over an hour away by train, while Geneva is around a two-hour journey. The airport itself is small but well-equipped with essential amenities, including a café, car hire services, and business facilities. Public transport links are efficient, with the airport bus connecting passengers to Belp railway station, where regular trains run to Bern’s main station in about 30 minutes. Taxis and car hire are also available for those preferring a direct transfer. The airport is also popular for scenic flights, with several companies offering aerial tours over the Swiss Alps for a truly breathtaking experience. While Bern Airport offers a quieter, stress-free alternative to Switzerland’s larger hubs, those needing more flight options will likely find Zurich, Geneva, or even Basel better suited. However, for visitors who value convenience and easy access to the capital, Bern Airport remains a great choice.
